THE JAMBOX HISTORY
JAMBOX Entertainment Studios had its humble beginnings in the Sound View area of The South Bronx. The company was started by Lee Evans back in early 1980s as a 4 track recording studio in a small 1 bedroom basement apartment. He took his living room and made it his bedroom space, took his small bedroom and made it into his personal studio.
Due to Lee’s tenacious desire to experience different styles of music, his popularity from being in a very popular singing group, his reputation of being a devoted musician and music knowledge gained thru his attendance at NYC’s famed Music & Art HS and music colleges,
Lee attracted local talent and honed his musician and recording chops. He started with a 4 trk cassette, and eventually upgraded to 8 trk reel to reel
Says Evans about the origin of the studio’s name: “It was always tight and hot as heck down there. Guys would say it felt (and smelled) like a sweatbox but man… we used to jam!” Thus the name JAMBOX was born.
Lee Evans and JAMBOX was ready. JAMBOX The Beginnings In 1989, JAMBOX Recording Studios NYC relocated to the East Village and started to grow even more due to the new convenient location. Years later in 1998, JAMBOX relocated to midtown Manhattan, expanding into a three room recording facility and broadening its services, officially becoming JAMBOX Entertainment Studios.
Today, The JAMBOX client list is in the thousands. We’ve worked with record labels, companies, and artists, and have well over 35 years of experience under our belt.
JAMBOX Entertainment Studios NYC is now a versatile music services company located in Chelsea-midtown Manhattan, New York City.
JAMBOX functions primarily as a sound and music recording studio and music production and service company. JAMBOX also takes pride in being a child and family-friendly studio and caters to children’s artistic development.
JAMBOX Entertainment Recording Studios NYC is also one of a few Midtown-based Black owned and Female co-owned businesses. JAMBOX Entertainment is co-owned by industry veteran Lee Evans and business-woman Cathy Palmisano.
JAMBOX Entertainment has become a home to local upcoming artists, producing notable New York and New Jersey-based artists. We are renowned for our comfortable and relaxing vibe and our “home away from home” feel and our time-tested knowledge of music

JAMBOX is much more than a recording studio!
JAMBOX does it’s best to be part of local community events that can enrich aspiring artist’s lives.
• We’ve judged NYC’s Karaoke Idol 4 years in a row
• We’ve also executed our own Artist Bootcamp where we mentored a select few up and comers from 8-16 yrs old (see photo on right).
• JAMBOX has had many HS music departments come through for a fun and educational tour of the studio.
• We have had over 10 of our staff, clients and friends, on national TV reality music shows such as NBC’s The Voice, American Idol, America’s Got Talent and Yo Soy El Artiste on Telemundo.
• We have also given numerous NYC showcases and live events.
• We at JAMBOX are givers and teachers by nature.
On our philanthropic side, we donate our services to special and unique programs.
JAMBOX owners Cathy and Lee along with music artist ‘Lori Micheals’ started a 501c non-profit charity organization benefiting kids, called ‘Reach Out Inc’
Reach Out Inc., founded in 1989 is dedicated to helping children to make wiser choices in life and educated them about the perils of drugs, violence, bullying, and promoting the awareness of Aids. We have helped touched inspired the lives of over 2 million kids through our unique music performances and messages
JAMBOX Entertainment Studios will continue to be involved in community events, and the education and development of today’s talented youth.
