Remembering Ben E. King’s Musical Legacy

Ben E. King, the legendary soul singer, was one of the pioneers in soul music alongside his group The Drifters. He is beloved among various fans and he became one of our favorite artists here at JAMBOX. Ben E. King has sadly passed but he left us with great musical memories. We here at JAMBOX remember and honor Ben E King’s legacy!

Ben E. King grew up in Harlem, NYC. Not only did he have amazing vocals but he also played various instruments such as the guitar, piano and keyboard. Furthermore he was able to create a world for himself and others in the industry and was one of the pioneers in the world of soul.

He gained popularity through singing with top soul group, The Drifters, on legendary hits such as “There Goes My Baby” , “Save The Last Dance For Me” and “This Magic Moment“. After leaving The Drifters in 1960, King had a succession of solo hits, including “Spanish Harlem“, “I (Who Have Nothing)“, and the iconic, “Stand By Me“. Through his numerous hits, King was able to establish his presence in the soul music world and establish a cultural legacy.

He earned a total of 12 top ten hits and 26 top 40 hits from 1959 to 1986. Later, he was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame as a part of The Drifters. Ben E. King’s music will remain popular for years to come. He was influenced countless artists and the music he created has been a staple in people’s lives and will continue to be. JAMBOX Entertainment Studios salutes the great and talented Ben E. King. We remember all his accomplishments and honor his legacy.
